| | STM slipper clutch - MV Agusta F4 1000
Home > Performance parts > All Performance parts > STM slipper clutch - MV Agusta F4 1000

| New this year from STM (Selezione Tecnologie Meccaniche) is MV’s wet slipper clutch kit. Using the big 125mm primary diaphragm ensures it will handle all of the 1000 massive horsepower output.
This system also features STM forced lubrication system for superior clutch life.
We strongly recommend the use of an STM clutch maintenance tool when installing this item.
More, much more, about slipper clutches:
Designed to eliminate rear-wheel chatter and the resulting chassis instability that occurs upon aggressive downshifting, STM’s patented ball and ramp slipper clutches reduce engine braking to make tap-dancing gear changers into smooth operators— smoothness being the key to safe, fun sport riding.
In addition to better keeping the back end under control, STM slippers offer increased clutch life, reduced clutch-lever effort and greater sensitivity in low-traction conditions.
In the ‘90s, STM looked toward the motorcycle market by producing the first prototype slipper clutch. This basic design forever changed the company’s main focus to high-powered two-wheelers.
The slipper clutch was first tested by World Superbike mainstay Pierfrancesco Chili and then used on Ducati factory bikes, which then won the World Superbike Championship with Carl Fogarty. While STM has been making dry-clutch slipper applications for Ducatis since the 1990s, the company’s wet-clutch slippers date back to 2002 with Aprilia’s V-Twins.
STM technicians worked on the adjustability of engine braking independently from the pressure on the clutch plates, thus modulating more opening parameters of the system. To this end, new Evoluzione primary springs were developed with a greater diameter and the secondary diaphragm springs are now available with different degrees of hardness.
Like the clutch’s other components, Evoluzione springs are entirely manufactured by STM and supplied with an operation graph and a serial number. The secondary spring controls the slipper function, by changing the force of the spring it is possible to adjust the slipper clutch, amplifying or reducing the effect of engine braking. The lighter the secondary spring, the less the engine braking effect, and vice-versa. The launch-control device is simply a sprung plate that absorbs the sudden blast of horsepower when the clutch is dumped at the start of a race. All STM clutches are built to operate with minimal friction, assuring great sensitivity—even on wet tarmac or other low-grip conditions.
